Military Madonna
The Madonna (in Italian, ma donna means “my lady”) is probably one of the most explored subjects of classical art over the past 1500+ years. In this image, Keith Frohn seems to have Susan take a turn as The Blessed Mother, with a hint of “Madonna Lactans,” or breastfeeding Mary. And I’m quite grateful to him that he neglected to include a baby Jesus. But her posture and expression, the patina-like background, and the radiance around her form, suggests Mary.
Mixing up Mary with a military uniform proposes something, I’m sure. Maybe it’s depicting the warlike colonialism of the early Catholic church. Or, more likely, I don’t know what the hell I’m talking about. So I’ll leave it up to you to interpret the juxtaposition. Or simply just gaze and contemplate Susan’s hotness.
